Everything Everywhere All at Once: Practicing Privacy and Data Security in 2023 (2023 Privacy & Data Security Section Annual Program)

Practicing privacy and data security law in 2023 can feel like navigating the multiverse. The proliferation of new laws and technologies, combined with heightened regulatory scrutiny and an increasingly active privacy litigation landscape, can leave practitioners struggling to keep up.

In 2023 alone we have seen (at least) five new comprehensive state privacy laws go into effect, bringing the total number to nearly a dozen (and counting) state laws, each with its own unique twist. The year 2023 has also brought an explosion in the commercial use of AI, which has raised questions for both legal practitioners and privacy regulators about the ethical use of such technology and its effect on individual privacy rights.

This CLE brings attendees up to date on the latest developments in privacy laws, provides information on the current privacy regulatory and litigation landscape, and offers practical insights on managing risks associated with the collection, use and disclosure of individuals' personal information.
