In this session, hear from a child and family psychologist about differences between mental health professionals serving in the roles of treating "fact witness" and "expert witness" in child custody cases. Other topics include emerging patterns, including the ethics associated with mental health professionals requiring payment of a retainer prior to trial to secure their court appearance, providers including "no court testimony clauses" in their business contracts, and similar restrictions on therapy services. Suggestions are offered to maximize use of mental health professionals in child custody cases.
