Intersection of Legal and Compliance

In-house legal and compliance teams engage with nearly every aspect of an organization, from employment matters to third-party risk, contracts to cybersecurity, and a myriad of other legal and regulatory compliance obligations.

This session focuses on the roles and responsibilities of "legal" versus "compliance," including regulatory interpretation and guidance, risk assessment, jurisdictional and industry requirements, and addressing legal matters that arise out of compliance incidents, all the while protecting attorney-client privilege and fostering good working relationships amongst the legal and compliance functions.

Topics include defining roles and responsibilities of your legal versus compliance teams to avoid conflicts of interest, managing investigations, attorney-client privilege, the roles of dual-hatted employees, conducting local/international law surveys and ensuring legal and regulatory compliance, and the pros/cons of bifurcated legal versus compliance functions.
