Once a purchase agreement is executed, developers start quickly designing and entitling their building idea. But what precisely happens over the course of those months? This session helps us understand how to get from an initial "test fit" sketch to "issued for construction" drawings and introduce the challenges one faces along the way.

    Ben Stevens is a Development Manager at ZOM Living in Raleigh. He is a real estate developer working for a top 10 national multifamily developer.

    Ben's book The Birth of a Building is required reading at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, the NC State College of Design and dozens of other schools around the country.

    Ben earned his Bachelor's in German Language and Literature from Missouri State University, his Master's in Intercultural Studies and Theology from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School and his M.B.A. in Real Estate and Urban Land Economics from University of Wisconsin-Madison.

    In his free time, Ben is the lead singer and guitarist of the Carolina Blues Revue and director of The Skyline Forum. He lives with his family in Raleigh.
