Long Time, No See: Lessons From the Pandemic (2022 Family Law Section Spring Program)

During our time apart, we've all had to adapt to change and overcome challenges presented by the pandemic, both personally and professionally. But we've also learned valuable lessons along the way.

Learn about some of the ways the pandemic has impacted the practice of family law — including the good, the bad and the ugly — and gain effective strategies, tips and techniques to assist you in your practice.

Experienced family law practitioners, NC District Court judges and mental health professionals share valuable insight on pursuing civil and criminal contempt in child custody and support cases, working with high-conflict families through virtual therapy, utilizing technology (and troubleshooting the technical difficulties that may arise), and understanding forensic evaluation reports in child custody.

In this manuscript, we also examine key cases from the past year that have impacted child custody and support, contempt, domestic violence, equitable distribution, post-separation support and alimony, marital agreements, and attorney's fees.

Topics include:

  • Reunification Therapy
  • Contempt and Custody/Child Support
  • Family Law Case Law Update
  • Custody Forensic Reports
  • Utilizing Technology in Negotiation, Litigation and Alternative Dispute Resolution
  • Lessons From the Pandemic as Applied to the Practice of Family Law
