2022 Young Lawyers Division Pro Bono Day: Navigating Legal Ethics in Pro Bono Legal Services

This item is expired.

Join the Young Lawyers Division (YLD) for their Pro Bono Day.

The day begins with a CLE panel discussion led by NC Superior Court Judge Carla N. Archie, Legal Aid of North Carolina attorney Brad Piland, and Campbell Law School Director of Externships Niya Fonville. This discussion encompasses the importance of pro bono legal services and how the Rules of Professional Conduct — such as Rule 1.1 Competence, Rule 1.6 Confidentiality of Information, Rule 1.7 Conflict of Interest: Current Clients, and Rule 1.14 Client with Diminished Capacity — play a part in pro bono work.

The panelists also discuss how they are making a difference through their pro bono work, how pro bono legal services benefit different communities, and how you can make a difference in your own community.

All YLD and NCBA members are encouraged to attend!

Following the panel, attendees have an opportunity to provide pro bono legal services via a virtual Free Legal Answers "Empower Hour," which includes 20 minutes of brief training and one hour of volunteering. Click here for more information and to register.
