Esports is big, even if you aren't paying attention. More than half of NBA ownership groups have invested in esports teams and ventures. The industry is interdisciplinary, with issues arising in labor and employment, contract, corporate, securities, immigration, tax and more. But, unlike traditional sports, the esports industry involves underlying copyright interests held by the developers and publishers of the games being played.
This session provides an overview of the industry, the copyright and other intellectual property issues at play, and how those issues inform decisions, negotiations and power in the industry.
